What matters to humans?

What is it that really matters to humans during the 21st century?? Is it the new Iphone that you rockin? The t-shirt on your back or the Dolce Gabbana jeans you just bought? or on a different note is it your family and friends? How much you get to volunteer this summer or that your saving the rain forest?
I think that most importantly we all forget the desire to be happy. We haven't forgotten that we want things to make us happy but we have forgotten to simply want to be happy with out "things". Humans live through tools, but in this day and ages humans live for tools. What are your thoughts??

I think I am slightly off "the norm" when it comes to this stuff. I don't ever remember wishing for anything else besdies happiness on my birthday cakes, and life happiness and contentment is what my greatest aspiration is. The things you mentioned before might bring some people happiness though, that is the beauty of it all. It is almost a life mystery, a journey to discover what it is that brings you happiness and that satisfaction.

Why, yeah, maybe we've lost some of our track in our way towards happiness a tad... but... when was it the last time that we were happy without 'things'? Mmmm... I think that if Nature or God would had wanted us to be happy, it wouldn't have given us intelligence or reason. But we have that and through those original tools... we began to give importance to certain objects as symbols or goals for our ambitions... which... after all these years have led us to our current state of affairs... Why do you think that we live for tools...?
